Creative & Unique Cinematic Pre-Wedding Shoot

I would highly recommend Brian Ho if you are looking for a unique pre-wedding shoot and not the typical run-of-the-mill type of photos to capture that special moment with your other half. Brian is great at capturing natural moments without you having to pose for the photo. Plenty of times, pre-wedding shoots look over-posed and typical as the couples just pose according to what the photographer demands and is the same pose just different people in it.(I bet a couple of your friend's photos come to mind) Brian works differently. He will brainstorm with you and understand the angle that you would like to have for your photos and tries his best to capture the essence of what you have in mind. It is best to have a theme in mind or some photo references of what you want to show your photographer your ideas. I believe in you get what you pay for. There is a reason why you pay a premium for good quality service and skills. Not everyone is able to reproduce the type of photos Brian captures especially with film photography - a dying art but photo quality is more beautiful with depth and texture. His photos are cinematic and romantic, which tells a story of the couple. When I showed my friends the photos everyone said it is so beautiful and unique (I can see jealousy in their eyes because the photos are really nice), some even commented that it looks more like movie stills from a romance film. I am definitely a happy customer and will recommend many others to Brian as a wedding photographer and will be using his services at our wedding banquet. Thank you so much for creating such beautiful photos of us!

Photos that will still look fantastic many years ahead

Brian covered my elder brother's wedding in SG and we kinda hit off from there. Being a wedding photographer (based in Japan) myself, I will definitely want the best wedding photographer for my own wedding. The style that had always inspired me were the kind of wedding pictures that were very real, like journalism, like fleeting moments in our everyday lives, not posed or re-enacted. When I saw my brother's pictures, I knew this was THE kind of wedding pictures that I want for my own wedding. Besides, both Brian and myself share a deep passion for analogue photography so he was naturally the perfect choice. So like all super popular photographers, I managed to secure the dates first with Brian, and then schedule the appropriate dates for the reception here in Japan. As Brian had never done any wedding photography here in Japan despite the fact that he used to work in Japan, I felt that it will be a splendid opportunity for him to debut his photography here in Japan. Most, if not all of my Japanese guests, friends, professionals enjoyed the experience with Brian and I still remember feeding him some of the food during the reception as I know how hard it can be at times for wedding photographers to endure long hours. And immediately on the next day after my wedding, I was actually assisting Brian to cover another pre wedding photoshoot for a SG client here in Japan. In summary, I think it is really important to have wedding pictures taken for keeping memories. No need for fanciful retouches or elaborated poses because wedding pictures are not commercial pictures of glamour magazines. They are memories to keep and to pass down for future generations so having them documented in a medium that has been recognized and tested thru time, you can be sure the beauty will remain eternal.

Our biggest day captured in time

I still remember meeting Brian Ho for the first time with my fiancee. We hit it off instantly and the chemistry was right. We met like 4 other photographer but Brian just felt right. Love the honesty in his pictures. Candid, non pretentious, just portfolio of couples just being themselves. Unaware of this masterful photographer capturing every smile, tear and laughter. Our wedding certainly was a physical challenge for Brian. We had a river crossing over a sampan and Brian had to run from one end where we boarded the sampan til the other end where we alighted. This was having 2-3 cameras on him at the same time! Yet it was the day we received our photos that really showcased his talent. While digital photography was on the rise, his shots was shot on film medium. Giving both Gael and myself that familiar look that we had growing up playing with consumer film cameras. I never really told Brian this but deep in my heart, Brian Ho has captured my wife the way I see her. Her unlimited expressions. Every nuance of her captured beautifully. It was the perfect medium to document our wedding.

Film photography in a digital age

When I was in search of a wedding photographer, I came across one thing that really struck me; a lot of their products looked generic. The kind of pictures you want for your wedding, is eventually a result of personal taste but I was trying hard to find something that a photographer could offer that no other photographer could, a certain 'je ne sais quoi'. That was when I was bestowed the wonderful luck of coming across thegaleria. The moment I saw Brian Ho's pictures, I realised immediately that his pictures were definitely not like the others. They all possessed a faint, ethereal quality about them. Many of the pictures were caught-in-the-moment, so much so that you could feel how the guests felt when the picture was taken. Imagine my surprise when I found out that they were caught on film photography rather than the ubiquitous digital ones. I was adamant that he be my photographer. The process of negotiating with Brian was painless and dare I say, enjoyable. He was preparing for his own wedding too and could share all our anxieties and fears. There were no hidden costs, false promises, and hard selling. What we wanted, we truly got. The day came and went, and all my guests could rave about was how beautiful the pictures turned out. As a matter of fact, they didn't even realise there was a photographer there because Brian wasn't in anyone's way, he didn't make anyone pose so he could get a good shot. He simply captured the joy, the happy tears, the laughs and the all-round cheery feel of a wedding - and he did all that in stealth mode! The end product speaks for itself. He gave us the pictures in a craftily made USB drive in a form of a film roll that represented his work and what it stood for. I highly recommend Brian Ho and thegaleria.

    Indigo Summer 2014 Rayavadee

We have a love for all things vintage as in "really vintage". Re-issued items and hipster vintage is all bull shit so it was natural that we would be critical when the time came to choose our wedding photographer. One glance at Brian's work and we were convinced this was the man for the job. A truly passionate and unpretentious photographer, Brian also specializes in film photography which was the main drawing factor for us. Something truly mystical about not being able to delete photos and we just had to have those moments captured. To cut a long story short, we met with Brian once, shared our theme of "Indigo Summer" and he took the lead from there. It was so smooth that it felt like he was one of the invited guest. We engaged him for our second reception in Singapore as well! Anyone can take a picture but Brian captures an atmosphere.

That makes every album we make unique.

Brian, principal photographer at thegaleria, remains as one of the rare few photographers in the South East Asia region who still shoots professionally in the old-school analogue film medium. While widely known as a Wedding Photographer who shoots mainly in the film medium, Brian has dabbled with experimental projects and filmmaking, expanding his genre of image making while staying true to his roots as an analogue film photographer.
