Exactly two years before their wedding day in May 5th 2018, Alvina met her future-husband, Stephen. "He was on a diving trip to see whale sharks in Gorontalo and I happened to be there for work," she recalled. Their meeting happened in a very unlikely setting, but his wedding proposal was quite predictable. "My mom accidentally mentioned the supposedly important secret in a group chat. But I pretended not to know Stephen's grand plan," Alvina shared. The question was finally popped during a hike at Big Bear Mountain, at the top of Castle Rock Trail, during the Coachella weekend in LA. And the rest was history.

The couple chose Amanjiwo as their wedding venue in a heartbeat. "I have always been a fan of Amanjiwo. It felt almost spiritual to go there," Alvina gushed and we can't help but agree. With spectacular views of Borobudur and Menoreh Hill, along with its dramatic limestone domes and carved walls, it seemed like the perfect location. She shared further, "And it's not far from Jakarta too, making it easy to access for all the guests. While we want a destination wedding from the very beginning, we didn't want it to be a financial burden for our guests."

The theme ethereal elegance was chosen and to realize their vision, the couple enlisted the help of Tea Rose Wedding Designer. "Upon meeting with Sally of Tea Rose, she quickly got what I wanted which was dreamy but not too feminine and sweet. She suggested shades of white and grey, light tourterelle grey, neutrals, cream, ivory and a touch of antique silver and gold," Alvina explained. A mix of rare plant selections like privet berries, driftwood and silver brunias along with layers of chiffon and tulle was brought into the party to create an enchanting setup. "We also had modern Javanese touches from Paras Jogja stone, jasmine and some jasmine buds to instill a cultural crisp in this wedding," she added.

For such a beautiful wedding, it was natural that Alvina wanted to look her very best without compromising her personal style. Thus, a strapless Oscar de la Renta wedding dress was one she picked. "It looks as if wild flowers grew on my dress, kind of like butterflies fluttering their wings," Alvina said. Looking heavenly, she walked down the aisle hand in hand with her father, serenaded by 'I'm Kissing You' by Des'ree. As they said their wedding vows, Stephen surprised her by how tear-jerking his were. "It truly made the wedding extra special," said the bride.

Following the scared ceremony was a warm reception. Alvina and Stephen had an interesting twist to the traditional bouquet throw, "We gave away 'The Alchemist' book by Paulo Coelho as gifts of the garter and bouquet throw. The couple explained, "The book helped us unite, it was the first book Stephen ever gave me and one that made him persevere during the first 7 months that I ignored his persistence. We hoped the 'law of attraction' wisdom that we believe so much can be passed on to singles who caught the prize."
