Aside from the couple, the decoration is one of the first things that a guest will notice when attending a wedding. The wedding stage is indeed the visual focal point of the entire celebration, but it doesn't mean that other areas should be neglected.
Although ceilings usually get very little attention, if any, adding a few overhead decorations will not only make your venue even more beautiful, but also tie the whole room together. Whether you're planning a grand or simple wedding, the hanging décor ideas below will inspire you.
However, they wouldn’t look out of place in more extravagant weddings as well. Preston Bailey himself worked his magic for Tania and Abel’s private villa wedding and created a sky full of stars with strings of fairly lights as shown in the photo above!
Another popular choice for ceiling decorations are lanterns. We usually see them on tables or decorating floor spaces on aisles, but they look as beautiful when suspended in the air. Make use of mismatched lanterns for a casual look or use hexagonal lanterns to evoke an edgy feel. Another tip, fill them with candles and light them when the night falls for an ethereal glow.
You can also make use of glass jars and bottles to create a beautiful ceiling decoration. We say this is perfect for brides who love a little DIY as this is a decoration look you can easily recreate. Hang the jars or bottle at alternating heights and insert some flowers. For a more edgy and rustic feel, use different kinds and colors of bottle.
Another decoration element that’s high in demand at the moment is glass spheres. They’re elegant, versatile and highly effective. Put colorful flowers in it for a more romantic feel or use candles to add more glam.
Up next is the modern geometric terrarium. Use geometric frames and adorn them with flowers to create a mini terrarium and hang them up. Experiment with the different shapes, colors, materials, and flowers to get the look you’re aiming for. Don’t forget to also consult your decorator or florist for ideas!
Simple and romantic, these strings of flowers work well for every kind of wedding celebration. Either on its own or complementing other ceiling decoration elements, flower strands will make any wedding better. An idea, you can simply hang these strands next to each other and create a simple yet beautiful ceremony backdrop!
Chandeliers normally become the first option for overhead decoration for glamorous weddings. However, it doesn’t mean you can use them for more casual weddings set outdoor. For brides wishing to have a laid back wedding but still maintaining some degree of elegance, this would be the perfect idea for you.
Now this is one idea we really love. Instead of using chandeliers, make unique and beautiful lamps using greens and flowers to adorn it. It’s both effective and beautiful; your guests will rave about it for sure.
For brides wishing to instill Bohemian feels to their big day, these hanging decoration ideas might be for you. Hang overfilled pots of flower with macramé pot hangers. Be sure to use bright colored flowers and incorporate greens to your liking. Complement it with hanging lace hoops or dream-catchers for a thick Boho feel.

Fabric drapes are very effective to create an ethereal look without much fuss. You can style the fabrics as pictured in the photo above, or cover the whole ceiling instead. Each look will evoke a different atmosphere. This one makes the room look airy and wide, while the covered ceiling makes it seem as if the venue is a different place altogether.
This idea is basically similar to the lace hoops in the previous slides, but this one uses plants and flowers to adorn it. We’d highly recommend this look to create a backdrop for the ceremonial vows or the photo booth. Think of how unique the photos will look!
They might not be hanged from the ceiling down, but the presence of floating helium balloons makes great overhead decorations. This wedding makes use of white semi-translucent balloons and field plants creating a beautiful balance of playfulness and simplicity. It seems that balloons are not only for children’s party after all.
This enchanting foyer decoration is from the wedding of Ricky and Nathalia, our very own social media director. The intricate flower arrangements on the ceiling contrasted beautifully with the all-white walls, and direct your sight up there immediately.

Still playing with flowers on the ceiling, this time we’re hanging them upside-down. You can totally mix the flowers with other elements like ribbons, chandeliers, and crystal strands as pictured on the left. This brings a vintage and fun look to your wedding. If you like a cleaner and more modern look, hang the flowers individually on a string. Would you try this idea for your wedding?
If you’re getting married in a very big ballroom with hundreds even thousands of guests, a full-fledge ceiling decoration is what we suggest. As the room will be fully decorated, adorning the ceilings with decoration makes the venue look even more spectacular.
