Travel review: Explore the beauty of Seoul on foot

Color:

Amid the pulsing neon, slick skyscrapers and mash-up of night markets, there's a soulful side to Seoul that can be uncovered on foot. From luscious parks, historical sites and hipster university towns, take time to get to know this grand old city on foot. To fully experience the efficiency of Seoul's public transportation system, we recommend you buy the Metropolitan Pass (or M-Pass) at the Seoul Travel Information Center at Incheon International Airport. It offers 1- to 7-day travel passes with up to 20 rides per day on subways, buses and selected taxis in the Seoul Metropolitan City area, plus discounts for admission to popular tourist attractions. Here are some photogenic places that you'll definitely want to Instagram.

This trip was sponsored by the Korea Tourism Organization.

Changdeokgung Palace

Listed as one of two Unesco World Cultural Heritage sites in Seoul, this royal palace preserves a unique, traditional Korean style. A guided tour walks you through the Joseon Dynasty's 600-year history up till 2005. After the royal treatment, take a 10-minute walk to Insa-dong, a sleepy old town with narrow alleys filled with arts-and-crafts stores where you can get traditional Korean craft souvenirs and tuck into a delicious traditional meals in a hanok-style restaurant.
