Torik Danumaya wanted to dedicate something special as a wedding gift for the bride, his older sister, Maya. At first, there were no plans of doing an engagement session, as Torik was too busy working on other projects. However, when presented with this simple idea, Maya and Bambi quickly jumped to occasion. The pre-wedding photo shoot then took place only a few weeks later.

"There was actually no specific theme for this shoot." said Torik. "Basically, the outline of this shoot was a traditional pre-wedding session touched with a contemporary air. The couple entrusted the whole concept to me, so I created relaxed, not-so-glamorous looks which suited their wedding theme and my photography style as well," he explained.

To us, the most interesting thing about this shoot is how everything managed to come together so well, even without too much planning beforehand. "It was so spontaneous, we had to make do with what we already had, actually. In one frame, we used my mother's kebaya and combined it with a batik cloth that we just draped around Maya. The orchids on her hair, we picked the flowers ourselves. As for Bambi, the idea of having him wear a gray blazer came spontaneously and the sandals that he wore to the shoot was what he used for the whole day."

Fortunately, Maya and Bambi were both very calm on the shooting day. Their chemistry was apparent, and as they both knew the photographer very well, there was no need to be nervous. A little music was all it took for the couple to relax as they began to talk, laugh, and dance. Happy couples look best, don't you think?

Torik, Maya, and Bambi all enjoyed the whole shoot and the results are breathtaking to say the least. It is traditional yet contemporary, both relaxed and poised, all in all captivating. Immerse in the beautiful pictures and tell us what you think in the comments section below.
