Speaking at the launch of his 173-page style guide, Go Get Gorgeous ($48 at Kinokuniya), hairstylist extraordinaire Kim Robinson shares tips on how brides can work together with their hairstylists to get the perfect do for their big day.

Do communicate with your hairstylist and plan a schedule of what you need to do for your hair (months, weeks or on the day of your wedding).

Do take care of any hair issues in advance, before your actual day, whether it is colour, ageing hair, dry, damaged or thinning hair.

Do give honest feedback on your stylist's work. They are not mind readers so you have to tell them what you are unhappy about.

Don't assume that your hairstylist knows what you want or suits you. Bring visual references of haircuts, blow-dries and settings to save time and guesswork.

Don't blindly fall into trendy or fashionable hair traps. They may not necessarily work with your hair type, personality or wedding theme.

Don't leave hair or makeup preparation to the very last minute on the wedding day. Set aside about 2 hours for just hair alone. Your hairstylist is an artist and needs time to create the most beautiful version of you!
