Take the plunge at underwater restaurants in Maldives

Color:

We predict this is going to be a big trend in the coming years: Underwater weddings. And not the kind where you have to dive thousands of feet wearing scuba gear or dine in a man-made aquarium. We mean literally eating with the fishes in a restaurant just metres below sea-level. Expect to be wowed by these integrated underwater projects in-the-works – Dubai's Water Discus Hotel and Hydropolis, Fiji's Poseidon Undersea Resort and Qatar's Amphibious. For now enjoy these chic offerings in the Maldives that serve fine gourmet cuisine and exquisite wines for your wedding of a lifetime.

Ithaa Undersea Restaurant

Feast with reef sharks and manta rays at this aquarium-like restaurant at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. Nestled five metres down below, Ithaa is accessible via an underwater staircase at the end of a jetty, and seats only 14 people. Offering 180-degree panoramic views of vibrant coral gardens, Ithaa (meaning 'mother of pearl' in the Maldivian language of Dihevi) serves contemporary European cuisine in a six-course set dinner menu. Expect indulgences such as caviar for dinner while the four-course lunch menu offers lighter fare. It’s also open for mid-morning cocktails and can be booked privately for breakfast, weddings or other special occasions. Do hurry though; Ithaa has an estimated life span of another 10 years.
