You've dropped good money on facials to get your complexion looking flawless — the last thing you'd want is having a zit pop up right before the wedding. Here's what you can do to prevent a skin emergency or stay sane if one should happen.

Drink up

Hydration is the key to skin health. Even if you can't manage eight glasses a day, try and keep up with your water intake. And we mean plain water, not juices, soft drinks or health drinks that are loaded with sugar.

Avoid junk food

This is what your mum has been nagging you to do since you were in your teens. Even if those sugar- and MSG-laden snacks may not directly trigger an acne breakout, it'll do you good to keep away from these unhealthy calories, too.

Load up on sleep

Eight hours a day is best, but with the stress of wedding planning, we doubt few brides can accomplish it. But do try to hit the sack by 11pm, which is when your body begins to repair the skin.

Don't go on a crash diet

While you may be trying to fit into that waist-cinching gown, going on an extreme diet will quickly wreak havoc on your skin. If you need to lose a few inches, work on a plan that will allow you to do so slowly and healthily.

Keep to your usual skincare routine

This isn't a good time to go around trying all manner of the latest beauty treatments, because your skin might react badly. Regular facials by a skilled therapist are your safest bet, while lasers, peels and the like should be carefully considered.

Get the doc to fix a zit

If the worst does happen, don't worry, there is a way to erase that spot! Cortisone jabs, now a common treatment administered by dermatologists, will flatten a pimple in one to two days, by way of an anti-inflammatory drug that is injected into the skin around it. So don't pick at the spot and head down to the dermatologist's, pronto.
