A Colorful Traditional Wedding Inspired by Kraton Yogyakarta

Color:

We're sure you still remember Yani and Tito's classic Javanese pre-wedding photo shoot we posted last week. Today, they are back to charm us once again with photos of their festive wedding celebration held at Fairmont Jakarta. A range of soft and vibrant colors graced each of their wedding processions, from the siraman all the way to the wedding reception. Before we get to that, though, let's start from the very beginning.

"Some time in 2012, our mutual friend tried to set us up. However, I was still living in London at the time. It was not until two years after, when we happened to work at the same company in Jakarta, that we finally met. We started dating two weeks later," said Yani. The couple knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together when separating at the end of each meeting became very hard to do. "One of the hardest things about dating is that you're constantly parting from each other," said she.

After eight months of a challenging wedding planning process, the big day came at last. Both Yani and Tito had their pengajian and siraman processions with slightly different color themes. Yani had on a soft pink kebaya after her siraman took place. For Tito, the palette was slightly bolder, with hues of turquoise and magenta seen throughout the midodareni ceremony.

Pristine white was the color of choice for their akad nikah. Yani's kebaya, by none other than SVARNA by IKAT Indonesia, was inspired by the classic Javanese velvet kebaya. Instead of adorning the white kebaya with traditional golden ornaments, designer Didiet Maulana added white lace to make it lighter and more fitting for the sacred wedding ceremony.

The reception, however, was a whole different story. As Yani and Tito were both of Yogyakarta descent, they took inspiration from the historical Kraton Yogyakarta for their wedding stage designed by Dalang Indonesia. "We chose the darkest and one the lesser-known rooms in the Kraton. In classic Javanese belief, the darkest room is said to be the most sacred space," Yani explained. To complement the already majestic setup, both Yani and Tito were dressed in a complete set of Kanigaran attires from Yogyakarta, something that Yani had long dreamed of wearing on her wedding day.

The whole celebration was, as Yani puts it, "Filled with positive vibes, blessed, and memorable. We were so excited and grateful. The only thing we regretted was how fast the whole thing went by." Something from the bride:

All of my vendors were extremely helpful, some of them even became my personal favorites. Ellelui captured our entire journey perfectly, from the pre-wedding all the way down to the akad nikah and wedding reception. Dalang Indonesia, our decorator, is the most original decorator in Jakarta right now. I highly recommend them. My invitation by AdanA was also very beautiful, I couldn't stop looking at their marvelous designs! Lastly, I'd like to thank Mr. Dudung who designed all my gunungan souvenirs and decorations.

Even though it was a rough eight months, as with many great changes that one must encounter in this life, difficulties and challenges are always around the corner. However, one should never let these aspects trump over the good things that await. Just remember that at the end of the day, what matters is getting married to the man of your choice. Always set your priorities straight and bear in mind that all the other aspects, such as décor, documentation, flowers, music, and everything else are simply complementary.
