Kak Jo and her magic hands
I first messaged Kak Johanna around 10 days before the wedding. I saw her portfolio on Instagram and felt it suited my style–simple and natural, highlighting facial features without changing the muse into someone else.
These days, there are many MUAs who offer a similar look, but what set Kak Johanna apart was our convo about eye makeup. I’ve never worn softlens in my life and didn’t want to start on my wedding day. I was scared and didn’t want to risk ruining the day over something so small. Other MUAs told me I had to wear them to liven up my eyes. But when I told Kak Johanna how I felt, she understood completely. She promised not to push me to do anything I wasn’t comfortable with. That’s when I knew I had to book her ASAP.
Fortunately, despite the short notice, she was willing to reserved her schedule for me. Before the wedding, she asked me to send photos so she could get familiar with how to best handle my features.
On D-day, she asked what kind of makeup I wanted. I hadn’t had time to explore styles, and since I don’t wear makeup daily, I simply told her that I want to be pretty, but I don’t want to look like a different person. I felt kinda guilty because I know that kind of request is actually very difficult, especially when we’d just met😂
But with her skill, I felt beautiful. I could still see myself in the mirror, just prettier. My skin looked so smooth and the colors she chose really suited me. I booked her without a retouch session, but the makeup stayed intact from 7 a.m. until late at night, even though I dipped my body in the pool in the afternoon (not my face tho, too pretty for that😂).
