Prepare for some close encounters… To celebrate the launch of the new cosmic-themed On the Moon honeymoon hub, travel club Mr & Mrs Smith quizzed 500 Singaporean honeymooners to find out first-hand what life's really like on their romantic vacay.

So where are the hottest destinations?

Given the choice to honeymoon again this year, the survey said…

★ An overwhelming 73 per cent would head to Japan

★ 22 per cent would choose Argentina

★ 4 per cent would want to explore India

★ 3 per cent would opt for Sri Lanka

★ Just 0.8 per cent would get loved up in Nicaragua

Brush up on your honeymoon buzzwords

Some lucky twosomes can fly away for more than a fortnight; the stats say a significant 15 per cent of couples went on a gap-year style adventure of more than 14 days.

They say that twinning is winning, and 45 per cent of couples planned a combo-moon, pairing different places for their trip (with most choosing three stops), whilst 32 per cent went on a beach break; 23 per cent chose a city break and just 10 per cent opted for an activityfuelled adventure.

Is three (or more) still a crowd? The 'buddymoon', where couples head on holiday with their friends to share in that post-wedding bliss, had a fairly significant number of fans with a fifth (20 per cent) of couples reporting that they honeymooned with friends for all or part of their trip.

What happens behind closed doors?

12 per cent of 'mooners admitted to spending most of their holiday in their suites (we didn't ask for details), whilst a healthy 80 per cent of respondents opted for the alternative of diligently exploring their new surroundings beyond the bedroom. Some twosomes were a little more adventurous – an eyebrow-raising 14 per cent reported being caught in a 'compromising position', of which:

★ 6 per cent were interrupted in the bedroom

★ 4 per cent in the bathroom

★ 4 per cent at the beach

★ 3 per cent were busy poolside

★ 1 per cent who gave no answer. Probably best to leave it at that!

And last but not least, of those surveyed, just over a quarter (27 per cent) reported the happy news of conceiving on their honeymoon or trying to conceive (35 percent), whilst a not-so-honest 34% admitted to pretending to be on a honeymoon to get free stuff! So, put some fuel in your rocket and prepare for lift off – because in space no one can hear things get steamy.
