The Wedding of Dimar & Adel by Adi

Updated on 05 June 2017

I know I suppose to promote the island of Bali but only for this time please let me be a traitor and raise you Cirebon. The city where Dimar tied the knot with Adel, the city where I was born and raised. Getting there is not difficult. From Jakarta the Capital, hop into a train and stay sit for 3 hours. Get off, and you will think that you have time travelled to the 80’s, but actually you’re not. You’ve just arrived in Cirebon. Where everything looks outdated, no one ever heard of H&M, and becaks are the king of the road instead of motorbikes. It’s more like a small town where there’s a public garden full of monkeys and everyone knows everybody’s family affairs. The beach is not so much to be proud of either, since you’ll get tetanus the minute you step on the sand. But it is neither the geological lunacy nor sparkling luxury lifestyle that people are looking for in Cirebon. Cirebon is the home of one of the most beautiful Batik and exquisite culinary adventure. If you need details about the Batik, you can ask my mom. I’m here to talk about the food. I have mentioned Nasi Jamblang and Empal Gentong in my previous post, and there are many more less mainstream yet mind-blowing choices. Grab your pen and notebook, I’m taking a deep breath now and will start naming: Lamb Satay at Simpang Tiga, Swike Waled, Mie Koclok, Tahu Gejrot, Docang, Bubur Sop, Kerupuk Melarat. I’m not done yet. Poci Tea, Bakso Pak Gun, Sate Kalong, Nasi Kuning, Nasi Lengko, Chinese food at Jumbo Restaurant, Seafood Haji Moel, and Susu Murni Lesehan. Those, are what kept dragging me back to Cirebon over and over. And my mom’s cookings, too, of course. Nothing beats my mom’s cookings. I am glad that Dimar and Adel chose Cirebon to be the place they made their dream wedding came true. At night before the wedding, Dimar and Adel took their guests strolling around the humble town, to explore the delicious gems the town has to offer. And contrary to the popular belief where small town weddings are rather celebratory and crowded, Dimar and Adel kept their wedding simple, outdoor, and surprisingly, intimate. I can easily mistaken it to a Bali wedding. Only the closest friends and family members were present. There were no pretentious just-to-be-polite gestures. Everything was just crazy, fun, and laid back. The most exciting part for me, was that they trusted me 100% to shoot Adel’s beauty portrait and their bridal party on film. Oh, it feels great to be a part of this wonderful wedding. The morning was graceful, the day was honest, the afternoon was joyful, and the night was wild. May you live happily ever after, Dimar and Adel. Cheers, Adi
