Malam Bulan dipagar Bintang
by WishingWeekend

Updated on 26 October 2017, Kuala Lumpur

I have decorated various weddings and then the time has come for my own. Longing for an intimate wedding reception where I can see close friends and family have a good time and where nobody feels like a stranger. I made up my mind from the start that I will not compromise on three things : delicious food that caters to vegetarian and non-vegetarian, great music of our favourite love songs, and charming ambience with personal touches. We searched high and low for the perfect venue that has the right mood, look and feel. It was getting nearer to the wedding and I almost gave up hope. Then accompanied by my mother who would also be the event coordinator, we walked in Melur & Thyme restaurant and it just clicked! The interior is modern but not intimidating, cozy yet stylish. And apart from the right mood, look and feel, we got to check 'taste' off the list too! The courses were just amazing! And we were allowed to bring in our own desserts, which was a relieved because we have already ordered Congo Bar from The Caravan Cafe, chocolates from Dubai and macarons by Shima. Come the big day, everything felt perfect and in order, beautiful masculine wooden tables and chairs were set viking style and orchids in gold sprayed bottles added some feminine touch. Candles in glittery jars acted as fireflies and napkins were folded like origamis by an artistic aunt. The space was split in to two sections, indoor and terrace. Each section was decorated with string lights (bintang) and a seat with a big moon (bulan) was set indoor, at the center, facing the guests, where we the newlyweds sat clad in champagne coloured attire against a big black drape covering the counter. My dress was sewn meticulously by Syafiq, a small time tailor from Klang who was talented as he was patient. I curled my hair from a nearby salon and had myself made up by Nunu Anual, a makeup artist who was also a bridemaid. Moving speeches by my brother (who was also an excellent MC), maid of honour, mother and father were testing my mascara's efficiency that night. A beautiful montage video was put together by my cousins as a surprise treat, compiling video messages by my close family members and my best friend living abroad. Guests enjoyed the food while Tasha Aleia, the soulful crooner, serenades. It was a head scratcher for us to find the right performer to sing our favourite songs in jazzy-folksy way, until we went on GigFairy and heard her sing. Then we knew Tasha was the one! One thing we did not account for was the heavy rain. Those inside squeezed and shared seats. Those who have eaten gave up their seats and went around mingling and taking pictures. But nobody complained and everybody stayed. And when they left, they left with roasted pistachios in jars as wedding favours, so we hoped everybody had a nutty & nice time with us. We are very happy looking back at the moments captured by the amazing Amini Nasir, Azim Idris and Azlin Ahmad.
