The Car Chit-Chat - Kevin & Naomy Prewedding
by Kairos Works

Updated on 17 November 2017, Bali

Love is something you take for granted, but relationship is something that you must fight for. A few years ago, in the midst of daily routines and boring days, Naomy found herself sitting on her desk in her office, looking at the blank screen on her laptop, and played with her pen without knowing what to do. It was nearly on the edge of her monotonous day. She grabbed her phone and tried to contact her besties to find something exciting to do in the evening. She asked her close friend and asked her whether she had anything planned that night, and her friend asked her to join her and hangout with his friends in the cafe near the CBD. Honestly, it didn’t sound a good plan at that time but since all her other besties that she contacted did not reply, that was the best option she had at that time. All new people, strangers that she had never met before seemed to be quite a good idea, she thought. There’s nothing wrong with making new friends right? So she packed her things and went to the cafe her friend told her to meet them at. In that cafe, there were mostly men. The were only a few girls in the group. But who cares? Just like her usual self, Naomy started to join in every conversation like they all had known for hundreds of years. Laughters and stories with no boundaries. She didn't expect that there was a guy in this group who gave full attention to all of Naomy's stories and her charm and interesting personality. That night, this guy ended up asking for her number. Days passed and turned into weeks, this guy intensely chatted with her and asked her for a date which Naomy thought it was just a casual dinner until she realized that this “dinner” happened too often to be just a casual dinner for a friend. Naomy started to realized that maybe, this guy was trying to win her heart, but since she didn’t want to disappoint him and before he fell even deeper, Naomy said "If you have feeling for me, please.. can we just be friends.” Yes! It sounded like she was overconfident. When I heard this story, I asked her why. Naomy said that this guy was too nerdy-looking. Smart, yes. But more like the bookworm type. It was mostly this typical boring guy. That was her reply. This guy was a tough one! Even when he received that kind of rejection, he waiting for the right time and moment to show his honest feeling. One day Naomy was in such a panic when her car was hit by a truck. It meant she could not drive to her office, or anywhere. Public transport was not a good option and Uber or Go-jek did not exist at that time. But this guy, offered her to be her very own driver everyday until her car was fixed. His reason was a cliche “Your office is in the same direction as mine. And it’s not far. It’s q quick one.“
