"It happened Sunday, February 10, 2013 This is how it went.. As some of you all know, Michael visited Indonesia last month for his vacation. I was so happy to see him again after being apart for about 2 months. He surprisingly brought me a huge box of Godiva chocolates. Yes. Chocolates.. The box had a messy red-ribbon-bow that he "tied" himself ;) It was so cute; he never did such things and I appreciated him for it. Anyway, I was wondering why he gave me chocolates; I thought it might be my early Valentine's day gift so I cheerfully opened it up... But there it was.. my stunningly gorgeous ring! the next thing happened, he whispered to me, "Maukah kamu menikah denganku?" (translation of "will you marry me?") With my happiest smile and teary eyes, "I will, Mikey" This is a piece of Rika’s memory about Michael’s proposal. Their love story amazes me; it makes me realize that love can come anytime, anywhere Rika and Michael have beaten all odds by finding each other through online dating. Here’s a testimonial from Rika’s sister about the first time this lovely couple met: “I remember one day in late February of 2012 my sister (Rika) told me & my brother that she had been talking to this man named Mike, and all the other hundreds of thousands of men on that site seemed less interesting. So, after exchanging many messages online for several days, they decided to meet up and have a proper date. Their first date happened on March 3rd, 2012 in the Croatian Cultural Centre. How do I know all of this, one may wonder. Well, it’s because they had their first date during the 8th annual Vancouver Diversity Health Fair where my brother and I were volunteering. Yes, they spent their first few hours of dating with my brother and me watching! (Just kidding!) Now, you see, some men would bring flowers or other beautiful things to bring on their first dates, you know, to get really good impressions. But, not Mike. Instead, he brought water filter for our fridge on their first date that my sister ordered. So, in a way, their first date was also a business transaction. It was very efficient.” I remember Rika once said to me, “Never try to change your partner. Accept them for who they are”. I sure learnt a lot from this couple. Michael and Rika had their beautiful wedding ceremony in University Golf Club, Vancouver on August 2nd, 2013. They will also be having wedding receptions in Indonesia. Congratulation Mike and Rika!
