Jewish Wedding with a Boho Flair
by Georgia Young Couture

Updated on 20 December 2016, Bali

We knew we wanted to get married in Bali, one of our favourite holiday destinations we visit often. We drove around for a couple of days with our wedding planner looking at venues but it was pretty instant that we fell in love with Pure Villa. It had a certain quirkiness to it that set it aside from the others and we knew it was the place for us. All the decor and styling was amazing. We loved the low tables with the scattered cushions that just added to the chilled vibe we wanted and later in the nights they were used to set up shisha, another touch that our guests loved. Our Chuppah (ceremony canopy) was breathtaking and another favourite detail- the greenery and lace draped over the top looked amazing and went perfectly with our bouquets (another favourite). Oh and our wedding cake made by Butter Bali, it was a work of art. Under pressure I impulsively bought a dress during a visit to a bridal boutique, only to cancel it a week later. By this stage I was driving my family crazy and they were about to give up! A friend showed me Georgia Young’s instagram account and instantly knew I wanted her to make my dress. I went to see her in her beautiful Brunswick street studio, tried on her samples and together we came up with the design, my dream gown! Since we are Jewish, it is tradition for the bride and groom not to see or have any contact with each other for a week leading up to the wedding. Then on the day they see each other for the first time before the ceremony. The groom puts the veil over the brides face and then they are ready to get married. We kept this tradition and asked our close fiends and family to be there with us. It was the first time we had seen each other for a week and it was the most magical moment of our lives. The second Rory walked in everything felt exactly as it should be- it was just perfect. We had a traditional Jewish ceremony, married by a Rabbi under our beautiful Chuppah. After the ceremony we went wild during Israeli Dancing- thrown in the air and spun around, it was definitely a highlight of our day.
