Beautiful Traditions - A Styled Shoot at Emily Hill
by Brody Tan Photography

Updated on 05 November 2017, Singapore

After traveling around rural China for a month, I found myself in awe of many things – from intricate fabric patterns to natural wonders. I want to express this beauty and showcase the culture of my roots, so using a Qun Kua (裙褂) as the point of inspiration, I started a mood board. The vision was to create something simple, elegant and timeless. (Fun fact: I learned that it takes almost a year to make a Qun Kua or traditional Chinese dress.) I learned a great deal from Carol from House of Etiquette about the history and workmanship that goes into the making of Qun Kua. Lucy from Floral Magic was able to create orange floral suites that added a pop of colour and provided a nice contrast to the white and blue porcelain vases. The location, Emily Hill, combined with the gorgeous natural light as well as Brody behind his film camera, made this all possible.
