Every couple has their own ideas of what makes a "dream wedding" and there's really nothing wrong with that. In fact, it is an once-in-a-lifetime event that needs a lot of thought and effort into making it absolutely perfect. But with that wonderful day also comes the time of reckoning the bills that need to be paid after the celebration is over. Surely, you want to make sure that you don't go completely bankrupt as you blow your wedding budget out of proportion. But you also wouldn't want to lose your cool, or worse ─ your relationship ─ over something as trivial yet as sensitive as money.

How much you want to spend on your dream wedding is an awkward subject to bring up. It's sensitive and you'll want to avoid it entirely. However, on the other hand, it is important and it needs to be addressed properly. As a couple, you need to be on the same page when talking about the wedding budget. Here are a few things to keep in mind when bringing this topic out in the open, so that you reach an understanding without burning any bridges between the two of you:

Lose the Ego

"I've dreamt about this…", "I want this…", "I need this…" Everyone is fluent in the language of "I" when it comes to a subject this personal. Cast away all selfishness and think about what is good for the both of you. Decide with your heart and not with your ego.

Think About Tomorrow

Your wedding party will last for one day - or a week, at most, depending on the culture or traditions you follow. But your marriage will last way longer after that. Think of what is absolutely important for you to have and let go of the things you think you can do without. Stick to the essentials and put needs above wants. Try hard ─ as hard as it may be for you ─ to keep it short and simple. Because at the end of the party, how important will that hanging chandelier made entirely out of flowers be for you?

Be Realistic

When it comes to asking your fiancé about how much you're allowed to spend on your dream wedding, the right answer you wish for is "the sky is the limit". Unfortunately, we are not all that lucky. As much as we would love to make all our dreams come true, we need to be realistic. When bringing up the subject of how much you both are willing to spend on the celebration of your love, remember to keep your feet on the ground, your heart in your relationship and your head cool.
