Globetrotters Daniel Lee and Ng Singhui braved sub-zero temperatures at the Arctic Circle – bare shoulders and all – for a once-in-a-lifetime pre-wedding shoot. Wow!
The adventurous couple planned their trip to Norway to catch the Northern Lights and last minute, decided to squeeze in a wedding shoot. "Daniel hadn't even proposed yet but since we were headed to the Arctic, we thought it would be amazing to shoot against snow covered mountains, vast landscape and Northern Lights in the dead of winter, no less!" laughs Singhui.
They booked Norwegian photographer Eirik Halvorsen online and Skyped him once to give him the brief. Singhui spent a week in Singapore looking for an appropriate gown to rent, while Daniel got his from a suit shop in Oslo. She did her own hair and makeup for the shoot.
To get to the Arctic, they disembarked from Bergen and set sail for 5 days onboard the Hurtigruten cruise ship, and docked at Tromso for the rest of their holiday-cum-photoshoot. Some picturesque locations included traditional Norwegian log houses in Tromso city, Cathedral of the Arctic Sea,Tromso Bed & Books Hostel, residential town of Telegrafbukta, and the world's smallest instant portrait studio! "Locals would follow us around and help stop the traffic while we posed for photographs. We felt like stars!"
"We had a great time hanging around the city, treading through thick snow with a 3kg gown and braving minus 7-degree winter. I tripped and fell many times! It was super-duper cold but I would do it all over again." Incidentally, the photos also got picked up by a local Norwegian newspaper and Huffington Post too!
