AP - Ghari & Chura Ceremony
by Impressario Inc

Updated on 06 October 2016, Singapore

The night before the wedding, a Ghari puja is held. This is a religious ceremony performed on the eve of the wedding day in the respective homes of the couple. The priest performs prayers with rice, coconut, wheat grains, oil, betel nuts and turmeric. The bride and groom are dressed in old clothing. Their individual families then tear off their old clothes, symbolising the exit from their old, unmarried lives. Our couple, Aman & Preeti had their Ghari Puja combined with the cleansing ceremony (Maiyan) during which the bride and bridegroom are pasted with turmeric powder in a beautification process. This was followed by the Choora Ceremony for our gorgeous bride, Preeti during which she was given a set of red and white bangles, ideally to be worn for 40 days and can only be removed by her husband after the 40th day.
