Purple Beach Wedding in Olowalu, Maui

Color:

Purple might not be the color most often chosen for beach weddings. The wedding of Matt and Lindsay, however, made purple feel like the most perfect choice. Sweetened by streaks of gold here and there, their purple dominated décor had become the highlight of the night.

The elegant place cards, bridesmaid dresses, centerpieces and every little detail of the wedding is in this royal color. Our favorite though, is the hand bouquet. It is the brilliant combination of purple gradations with dusty pink, white and also some greens. Edgy, elegant, effortlessly pretty.

Here is what the bride has to say about the wedding:

The easiest decision we made during the wedding planning process, was deciding on location. We have vacationed on the island of Maui since the beginning of our relationship, and we were so excited to share our love of the island with our immediate family and best friends. Our guests literally went the extra mile, by joining us in Maui, and their constant support made the wedding that much more special. We decided on a small intimate wedding, which allowed us more time with our guests before, during and after our wedding. We went surfing, golfing and even had a beautiful sunset cruise on the eve of the wedding.

The hard work paid off by having our celebration at the Olowalu Plantation House. It had the feeling of a backyard party, complete with an ocean side ceremony, veranda dining with an exquisite meal still getting enthusiastic reviews, a cigar and scotch bar, and we forego the DJ in lieu of our IPod playlist where the guests actually vetoed the songs! Our first dance, Marry Me by Train, on the patio surrounded by our friends and family holding sparklers was almost like a fairy tale. And, although difficult to keep a secret our surprise fire dancer performance was incredible and blew our guests away.

We celebrated those who couldn't make the wedding both past and present by flanking the aisle with their photos, so they could feel close to us during this special moment. We had a lot of DIY projects that tried to depict us as a couple, from our cake topper where Mathieu was wearing our NHL hockey team's jersey, to a globe highlighting all the places we have travelled together, to the small doctor's care packages celebrating my career. Our favourite DIY element was our throwback Polaroids of each guest. They were so surprised, and when they posed for new ones that night, it gave us a great keepsake from the day.

The biggest advice we could offer other couples planning their wedding is to really think about what they want from their wedding and what it means to them. For us, the decision was easy. We wanted a small wedding which allowed us quality time with our guests, but that might not be for everyone. Lastly, although we were warned, the day really flies by. Try and find some quiet moments with your new spouse to admire your hard work and soak everything in. If you can, hire your photographer and videographer for longer than you think, then they can capture all the special moments that happen in a blink of an eye!
