Being married to your husband also means that you're married to his family. However, when it comes to the subject of sisters-in-law, some women find it a bit tricky, especially on how to have a good relationship with her. Here's a simple guide on how to establish and maintain a good relationship with your sister-in-law.

Spend some quality time together

Make time to hang out with your sister-in-law. You could do something you both really enjoy doing, like baking, shopping, or getting pampered at the salon, or even as simple as having a nice lunch together.

Give her a gift

It's not only a thoughtful gesture but also a sign to show that you care about her. You don't even need to splurge because even something simple as a nice lipstick will be enough.

Congratulating on her special day

If you missed a chance to send her a gift on her special day, such as birthday or graduation day, make sure you personally congratulate her directly or virtually.

Be her friend

Sometimes you just need to take off your sister-in-law hat and just be a friend to her. Listen to her and be there for her. The bonds between you and her will be stronger as time goes by.

Ask for her advice

To ask someone for their opinion will make her feel important. As it will for your sister-in-law. She might have a lot of great tips and tricks on how to do things, especially when it comes to dealing with your mother in law.

Make compliments but not too much

Don't forget to sincerely compliment her, either her appearance or something that she has done. It includes the likes for her social media postings. Please remember to say it when you mean it.

Stay close but create boundaries

It is great if you're close to your sister-in-law, even close enough to call her your 'best friend' but it's not such a great idea to share marital issues with her especially if your husband has a very close relationship with his sister. Remember that blood is always thicker than water!

Be helpful

Whenever she looks like she needs her 'me-time', it's always great to offer some help such as babysitting her children for a good hour or two. She would be very grateful and at the same time, this kind of action would help you develop your confidence and gain her trust.

Compromise

She's a sister, blood or in-law, a sister is always a sister, the one who says things and does stuff that might bug you. There are times when you need to ignore the annoyance, and there are times when you need to pick your battle. Handle it in a kind and constructive way.
