Ren & Stacey Wedding in Alila Uluwatu
by Axioo

Updated on 05 June 2017, Bali

I remember the first time I fell in love with photography. It was in 1996 and my heart was won over by film. I remember going on countless trips to Mount Rainier and Olympic Mountain with bags of film on hand and a big hope to capture the beauty of the Puget Sound. When shooting with film, I get a strange kind of satisfaction. Even when I can’t see the result immediately, I just feel like I know what I’m doing. Besides, I love to hear the sound of the shutter of the camera… it’s different and somehow, leaves me with an exciting suspense to see what the picture will turn out to be. Film has always been my first love. Since 1996 and many years after that. Even after film has become more seldom used and digital cameras took over, I’ve always brought my film cameras along on personal trips. It’s been a while since I took it out to cover a wedding but I’ve always wanted to do it. So, I was glad when I finally had the chance to do it at Ren and Stacey’s wedding in Bali. The moment I began to shoot the wedding at Alila Uluwatu Bali, I asked myself what has stopped me from covering weddings before this with a film camera. And when I saw the result, I felt the need to do more of it. There’s something about the color that makes it different… like it’s softer, more romantic, with a bit of a fine art feel to it. I don’t know if you can tell the difference (I hope you can) but for me, this experience was refreshing and addictive that has made me believe that film has won my heart once again. So, let me share with you Ren and Stacey’s wedding album that I shot mostly on film. Enjoy, David
